Being a student at the University of Mississippi School of Nursing (SON) is about earning a quality education, being involved on campus, serving the population of Mississippi and contributing to innovations in the fields of research and practice. With an interdisciplinary campus culture, SON students collaborate with students and faculty from the schools of dentistry, graduate studies, health-related professions, medicine, pharmacy and population health.
The collaboration extends to the school's faculty-run clinics in the Jackson and Delta school-based clinics and a mobile clinic with the School of Medicine. SON clinics help to improve health care services through evidence-based practice, foster a mutually beneficial environment for interprofessional learning among UMMC students and create a setting for future research. The SON houses one of the few basic science laboratories located in a southeastern United States nursing school aimed at understanding mechanisms underlying chronic demyelinating disorders and tumor resistance to cancer chemotherapy. Students can access our clinical skills and simulation labs in the main SON and adjacent Classroom Wing buildings.
